AD40A vs. AD40B...what are the real differences?

turbo or fuel pump or injectors or all the above?

also which is any parts would not be interchangeable between the two engines?

I have heard:
Pistons is the biggest part difference, they were redesigned after the "A" to smoke less.
If you buy all new pistons&liners to rebuild an "A" , you get pistons from a "P" .
Also the injectors are supposed to have a different spray pattern and different settings on the fuel injection pump.

thanks for the reply...the reason I wanted to know was that I have a opportunity to purchase an entire spare engine to use for parts which is an AD40B model. If there are parts on that engine I cannot use, it would be good to know but my suspicion is that the majority will be interchangeable.

I have twin "A"s in my boat, when I rebuild them I want to make them "B" or later. I have asked MANY Volvo Penta parts guys, mechanics, no one has ever
given me a detailed list of what is different . I would not hesitate to buy a "B" engine for parts .

it appears from photos of B models I have seen that the intake manifolds are different that on my A engines so that would mean differences at the turbo intake and outlets I am sure but are the turbo's different?
