accelerator pump ball

Hi - I've got a Rochester 2 Jet carburetor with the little (aluminium?) ball for the accelerator pump stuck in the hole in the housing, where it goes in and out of. What's the best way to get that ball freed up so it will move? Heat? A penetrant of some kind? Any help would be appreciated. So far nothing I've done has worked. I'd really love to get it moving again!

Thanks!

should be steel.....a light tap with a pin punch and a small hammer would be a good first step....

Penetrant won't hurt and heat would be more effective - but you need to ensure all the fuel (and vapor) is gone first....

Know what you mean. Long as it's free to move, I leave them alone. Squirting Cut Finder (AKA Lacquer thinner) backwards through the accelerator pump circuit cleans that passage out. I also use the old pump to pump some gas through the circuit before putting the top back on.

I don't see how a punch would help, or does the ball go down into the passageway below? I've worked at it with a pick but it's not moving.

"I also use the old pump to pump some gas through the circuit before putting the top back on." What do you mean by this? (I'm new at working with carbs)
