Accelerator broken ..HELP

Hi guys I am in Ireland and just pull-starting for first time this season. engine started and ran until I stopped it but when I went to restart the cord was difficult to pull and then I found a broken bit in the engine tray. Hoping someone can recognise from the photos what is broken and make a suggestion how I fix this or where I might find a part number to order this at home

No idea how old but runs ok

Engine cover says evinrude e-tec 25 but that could just be a cover.

ID plate is as follows

MOD NO: HE25KCLG (def no mistakes there)

Serial Number: H262676

OUTBOARD MARINE CORPORATION – HONG KONG

another bit - this is to do with the acceleration but not sure what it all does - can anyone help

I believe the part you need is #320786. Obsolete, but plenty on eBay. Not sure of that model number over here? Check out the looks of the part (eBay) & see if that looks like it? Check to see if your mag plate is sticking. Wondering why that part broke?

Thanks t2stroke, that is the part by the looks on ebay. Think the mag plate is sticking but the engine started and ran 5 mins before. When I was attempting to restart the pull cord came out and then I noticed that the engine wouldnt turn by me turning the top plate. So not sure why that piece broke but it is a pivot pin??? Engine is old but worked fine last time out. I am puzzled. Dont want to order one of these for the same thing to happen again

well thats what it says on the cover but I understand that doesnt mean anything. I just know that there is nothing wrong with that model number. Thanks for the input

Your motor is a 1986 model !!-----Long before the E-tec models were on the drawing board / engineered !

Good job of finding it, racer. I couldn't, and still can't. But according to my list, "KC" means "kerosene". Wow, really? Never saw one of those. OK, I realize it was made in Hong Kong.

If it is meant to be run on kerosene all I can suggest is that someone along the line has tuned it or changed the carb because I got this in 2014 and it has run perfectly on 50:1 2 stroke mix since (that is max 20hrs a year since then.) All I did when I got it was change the impeller and the gear oil and put in new spark plugs. I took it to a mechanic friend and asked him to compression test and tweak the carb if necessary. Anyway what was/is the difference between a leisure and commercial motor? I am totally new to marine engines so I am concerned about why this thing has broken when we tried to restart it today after the first 5 mins run. I will post more pics and a video tomorrow with a bit more detail but I really need suggestions as to why this has happened. Thanks in advance

Maybe the rope came out because something was stuck and trying to force it to turn by pulling (when the rope came out) caused that that pivot pin to break. Guess I need a manual for this model but if it has been changed then no point looking in a manual - or is there? I will try an get a few photos today and detail the problem so that one of yous might recognise what's going on because I am clueless. Thanks for all the input. Any advice re manual or ideas appreciated. Cant rely afford a new engine so I gotta get this fixed.

Step # 1 is to pull the flywheel for a " look see " for loose parts.----Those motors are known to have screws come loose under there.----Flywheel then grabs the magplate and bad things happen.----Up to you to have a look !

Sounds like thats what has happened. Flywheel grabs the magplate. Will it help to remove them both and check it all out or is that complicated

Everything racerone is telling you is where I would go. I'm little worried about that port you have your finger over in the photos? Looks like an A/C plug if my memory serves me correct. (Never saw many) , but they were popular in S. America. That would be another reason to get under the flywheel. Just another item to come loose under there. Better to have a look.

That is what they call the " AC lighting port ".----With motor running you can use that for a bow and stern lights.----Fairly common feature for a few years.

thanks for info. dont think i will be needing bow and stern lights anytime soon. I have deck and cabin lights but they are led and work from the battery. The battery is trickle charged by solar panel.

The " commercial " is really no different than the regular model.-------Marketing leads people to believe they are different and better built !!

Generally agree. A few acceptions. Chrome water pump housing (maybe), manual rewind on top of the motor on models that didn't have one, bigger models with tiller controls (up to 125hp), goofy 22 1/2" length engines for South America. Mostly "featureless benefits & benifitless features"! OH, special paint jobs! And of course a higher price tag.
