99 mariner rebuild how much

"Hello everyone, im new here nice to meet you all.

Im wondering if someone can tell me ROUGHLY how much im looking at to rebuild an older 9.9 hp mariner. The previous owner said the water pump went so im guessing the whole engine is toast?

Im wondering if its worth taking to a shop?? Im completely new to this so i dont know am i looking at HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS?

"If you rebuild it from top to bottom--thousands. It depends how much damage was done when the impeller went out. If mild, a ring job, new seals, main bearings and, of course, the impeller, shuldn't cost more than a grand.

wow for an old 9.9 im probably better off just to buy another used motor then for that kidn of money. Thanks so much for the info.

Think its worth taking it in to get it checked out? WHen teh water pump goes can you sometimes just get that replaced. I dont know what the previous owner did with it.
