"I have a 9.9 that starts easy and revs up fine when idling, put in gear and it has no power. Could this be a carb. problem"

"Ok, we'll guess at the Year and features your 9.9 has. And the 'revs up fine when Idiling'?
A little history would be helpful. When did all this start....?"

"The motor supposed to be a 1976 model, I have never checked the numbers. The problem has gotten worse everytime I have had it in the water. Put new gas in tank and replaced the plugs. Thanks for the help"

You may have a spun prop. Can the motor push you at a trolling speed? Usually with a spun prop your motor will troll OK but when you give it more gas the motor just revs up to very high RPMs but unfortuneately the boat goes nowhere. Of course in neutral the engine will idle fine since that has nothing to do with the propellor.

The motor pushes the boat abou

The motor pushes the boat about half the speed that it used to.How do I check for a spun prop. Thanks for the help

You need to confirm that you h

You need to confirm that you have spark on both cylinders as it can run on just one cylinder

"1/2 the speed seems more like

"1/2 the speed seems more like a one cylinder issue than a spun prop. A spun prop will only allow very slow movement (trolling) but as soon as you give it more gas the rubber hub on the prop will disengage from the drive and it is effectively like having no propeller on the motor. The motor just revs up (since the prop. is spinning on the hub).

The quickest way to determine if both cylinders are working is to run the motor at a slow idle and pull one spark plug boot at a time. The motor should stay running on one cylinder. If you pull a boot and the motor stalls, it tells you that the other cylinder is not running. Run that test first. Use insulated plyers to pull the spark plug boot as you may get a little shock through the rubber when using your fingers. It is a very high voltage that goes to the spark plugs."

Does this model of motor even

Does this model of motor even have a prop hub to spin out? Could be a fuel issue if there suggestions don't solve the problem

"Troy, all the 9.9 OMC motors
