today i went ride and after a little while it shut off and my overheat light came on so when i got home i noticed the starter never went back down (it stayed up the entire time i was riding), could this have caused it to get hot? there was something melted on one of the spark plug possibly valve or piston which is not good..please help..........its a 1999 stratos with a 115 johnson when i had bought it the guy ripped me off the block was cracked.. my buddy rebuilt it new everything including impellers and waterpump like you had said..the starter was the same one so thats what i dont understand it was pissin the whole time.. when i tried to turn the key again to see wat it would do it would just make one click sound. this is agrevating

Take the cylinder head ( bad sparkplug ) off to inspect.----------------Sounds like it needs to be torn apart again.

Melted aluminum on the electrode of the spark plug? That is usually caused by having the full spark advance timing set too high, a spark plug with too high a heat range, a fouled carburetor resulting in a cylinder running too lean, or a very fine spray of water entering the combustion chamber which increases the heat factor greatly.

yea it was on the electrod..do you think the block is still good or split? tonight ill have to take a look

thanks guys.. im about ready to GIVE this thing away every week is somthing new

Probably a piston gone ------------Too lean = overheat-------------or a bad bearing ----Take the head off to inspect.
