I have a 70's vintage engi

I have a 70's vintage engine - green shaft - white shroud and the water flow slowed down at the end of last season to almost a dribble. Probably time to change impellar but I have never done one before. I don't have a problem doing the work - I would like to know the best method - is there a self help site I can get the info or from msomeone here?

Thank you in advance for any help

Benny

"changing the impellor general

"changing the impellor generally involves "dropping the lower unit". This means you have to remove the gear housing at the bottom. It generally requires that you disconnect or seperate the shift linkage, and seperate the driveshaft and water tube from the powerhead. If the motor you have is newer than 1968, there probably is an exploded view of it on the website at evinrude.com. This view should show where the lower unit seperates from the housing. It will also list the part numbers you will need for ordering replacements. Most parts are available here on Andrews site. Once you get the lower unit off, do not carry it by the driveshaft. Dont forget to replace the lower unit lubrication."

"Simple , remove six small bolts and the lower unit drops down. You will then see the shift connecter.Remove that bolt and then the rest is easy.Make sure to line up the " notch " in the shift shaft on reassembly."

"Thanks for the info - I'll tackle it on Sunday and see how it goes. I'm trying to get it done by the end of the week when I'm taking my sailboat across the lake so it would be in running condition for my Avon dinghy. If I have any unsurmountable problems, I'll post again for advice. Thanks, Randy"
