99 johnson 50hp temp sensor

Quick question. Was wanting to test the temp sensor circuitry so i disconnected the plug and grounded it to block. The hi temp light came on but shouldnt the buzzer sound too. Also when i turn key on it goes thru its check, all the lights come on and buzzer sounds for a split second.

I may be wrong but I don't think the buzzer will come on unless the motor is running.

Oh, i didnt know that will try testing with motor running as soon as i get it out again. Thanks

Yep exactly right. The tach needs to be seeing tach signals before the sensor electronics within the tach can operate.
