99 evinrude will not shut down

"87 - runs great so much so, it will not shut down. the engine continues to run even when the clip is removed. when you depress the stop button the engine still runs. it will not shut down. any ideas?"

Black wire from powerhead ground to powerpack.

Black/Yellow wire from powerpack to one of the stop button terminals.

Black wire from the other stop button terminal to ground.

Somewhere along the above path, a wire is broken, disconnected, something along that line."
 
tyvm. since you diagnosed the

tyvm. since you diagnosed the switch it's an electrical problem and i would imagine that switch is a dealer item? looks tough to install.

"I'm having the same problem with my 98 25hp. Had a friend look at it and we discovered that the entire housing would move as well as the kill button. When I push the housing behind the clip the motor would stop every time. Try it and see if it helps, beats replacing the whole thing like I thought I would."
