I have a new to me older Blackfin 29 with the 454/350horse motors. Carburated. 1250 hrs on them. Can I safely run synthetic oil in them or do I stick with dino oil? Which weight? Also Im changing out the hoses...There is a small AC fuel filter in an impossible place to access on this boat. I have the remote racors... can I eliminate this filter or just change it out when I remove the large hose from the engines coolant pump? Trouble is once the hose is reinstalled not sure I'll be able to accessthe filter for maintenance. Any help appreciated.

Both these questions will get both possible answers. I'll say multi viz synthetic is better, but make sure it has high zinc content, like amsoil AMO. There are others as well. I'd remove the little filter. Replace the racor element every other year. Use the metal drain sump.

pulled that canister filter decades ago...do it, for sure.

Full synthetic oil as well...no problems due to oil. We use the 15w-50 weight.

same engines but 86 vintage...overhauled after 3000+ hours with the synthetic.

Thanks guys for the info.....just wasnt sure the seals could take it. Will get rid of the inaccesable filter and 3000 hrs....man you are doing something right.
