Recently bought a boat with a 9.8 kicker. The serial is A707462 (made in Canada). Can someone tell me what year it is?

"Bill, that's a 1985 model

"Bill, that's a 1985 model. Built in the last days of the 9.8 model.

The 9.9's were introduced in 1986, along with Merc's new serial number scheme that included the letter unlike previous years.

Your model came off the production line just before the "new" 9.9's started coming off - so it got the new style serial number.

A bit novel, but doesn't make it worth more, or run any better
