98 Merc wonbt idle help

I have a late 70's 9.8 Me

I have a late 70's 9.8 Merc that won't idle. It will run fine at high speed. I removed the carb and replace the diaphram and cleaned it out. It ran ok at first but now it won't idle. Tried adjusting ait mixture but no results. Going on vacation next week need ideas.

On the port side of the carb, just aft of the idle mixture screw you will see a screw plug. Remove this plug, and underneath the plug you will see the top of the idle tube. This tube also screws out. Remove it and clean it thoroughly. More than likely this is the problem.

Thanks I will check that out. I did not know that was there. I'll let you know if that cures the problem.
