1st issue is idle seems way to low. approx 500rpm. after thorough warmup I shift in to forward or reverse and it stalls.Does the idle get adjusted thru timing or set screw procedure? Also, my WOT is only 4700 RPM , fully trimmed motor on calm waters. Seems to be really low WOT RPM. Prop is 3 blade 15x17 #391200. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

What type boat? Size & brand? That is low WOT. Going down in pitch is not preferable. Do you know if the engine is running on all cylinders? Do a cylinder drop test.
Idle can be adjusted by idle timing or carburetor needle adjustments, but if they haven't been fooled with they should not change. You may have other problems before you start adjusting. Have you taken a compression test? Open air spark test to see if all cylinders are firing?

1998 Legacy Sea Era Walkaround 23ft. Other then the idle issue the engine seems to run fine. No hesitation or bogging. No comression test done as of yet. I will get that done after work.

Is this a new problem or long standing? Has any work been done on the motor recently? Some simple tests would be to use a timing light or spark tester to see if you have all six cylinders firing. Also with the timing light, idle timing should be about 4° After TDC. Check the timer base under the flywheel and see if it's free to move. Mine was stuck by melted stator goo so timing wouldn't advance. Otherwise, idle is primarily set by timing using the screw at the forward end of the spring-loaded cylinder on the throttle linkage. Clockwise to slow idle and counterclockwise to increase. Be careful not to change the maximum timing advance stop screw at this point, you could damaged the motor.

No work done to timing , idle or carbs. Just regular season tuneup, water fuel separator, plugs which I switched to champion due to factory recommendations. I will check all the issues you listed .

So, did it run fine before, and now after tune up it doesn't? Correct plugs, water separator, fuel hoses not pinched?

Thank you for helping. Finally had more time to dive into some ignition testing. I did find #3 cylinder has intermittent spark. Switched coils to quickly check and the same cylinder is bad.tested all coils just to verify. Same results. Now I'm into testing the power pack.
Where can I find the wiring diagram for SETIAL#J200 TXECM ? Also, is there a trick to getting that power pack cover off from under the flywheel?
Thanks

No you don't have to pull flywheel, but it's tight in there. When you lift up the back of the pack try to take a picture. Everything has to go back (wiring) the way it was (assuming someone hasn't been there already). Couple of J clamps & holders for connectors. Color coded wiring so plug & play just tight & everything has to be in its place.
