I have a 98 johnson ficht that

I have a 98 johnson ficht that needs replacement fuel injectors I can buy them online but Im being told they need specific software with them is this true? and is there any way to get the software after the fact. Thanks for any help

"You need the 'diagnostic software', a lap-top and cable to enter that info into Your ECM. Software availability depends on where You live, but there use to be quite some on e-Bay, but not all are working!!! There is a copy protection in the original disk! Safest is to contact a dealer, unless the one supplying the injectors can get a software pack for You. Note that the programs only sets the injectors to 'replaced'. As spare parts all injectors have the same calibration, opposite the production ones that comes in different calibrations. Taking injectors from another engine might put You at risk."

So a new injector in the box with no software is useless unless you are replacing all injectors at the same time. Thanks

"You may replace one or more but You need to 'reset' the ECM so it has the right injector information for each injector. It is roughly like this.
A 'replacement' injector giving the nominal amount in a given time is set to 100%. Any other injector giving 'more' at the same time gets activated a shorter period of time than the reference injector and might be programmed at 95%. The opposite if giving less at the same time amount. That way the injectors will always give the same volume injected in each cylinder. If You replace an injector set at 90% with a replacement injector without changing the ECM, that cylinder will run lean. The reset system in the software only gives the opportunity to install a 'replacement' injector with value 100%.
As a side note: the above is the reason for NOT switching injectors between cylinders!!!!"
