"My friend and i had just bought a boat w/ a 97mercury 2stroke 40 hp motor. We were boating one day, we parked it for 30 minutes, and suddenly it wont start. I just found out now that there is no spark. Can somebody give me any advise."

Start with the kill

"Alex,

Start with the kill circuit. The engine turns off by grounding the ignition system. This is done through black/yellow striped wires that ground the CD modules. Disconnect them and see if you have spark.

If you have a model with a single switchbox, there will be one wire to the single box.

"Thanks Tony for the reply. Well, i tried what u said. There's two black/yellow wire going into, i guess, that module you're talking about. I disconnected them, and it still didn't fire. I still don't know what to do. Would buying or borrowing the manual from the library help me diagnose for ignition problems step by step. I hope the problem is nothing big."
