97 Johnson 150 water hole sealant

Hey guys,

i took the head covers off to inspect my cylinders, now I got new o rings for the pistons, but I also have to seal the water holes in the power head. I was told to use permatex. My question is do I put it in each hole or a small bead around the outside of each hole?

Black RTV. One of the few places OMC uses RTV. Just a smear around the holes is all that is needed. You are just sealing against external water leaks. The orings do the rest. Just did one this morning myself.

So am I suppose to use o rings on them as well?? I was told by a boat mechanic that I needed to put the 6 o rings on the pistons, but just use the permatex on the water holes? So are you saying there are o rings for each of those water holes as well??

NO, the O-rings seal the cylinders,in place of the head gasket
