"PROLINE C.C. THE SYSTEM CHECK ENGINE MONITOR GAUGE AND THE ONE SEC. HORN BEEP JUST QUIT WORKING,IS THERE A FUSE THAT I CAN NOT FIND? PLEASE HELP WHAT CAN i CHECK FIRST?"

"And that is ALL that quit? N

"And that is ALL that quit? No other electrical symptoms? If so, NO it is not a fuse issue. If you have other systems that are down, then there may be a fuse issue, (only one fuse at the engine, by the way). The easiest way to tell is to swap in a good Systems Check tach.

OR,
Measure the voltage (with key on) on the purple wire that connects to the tach or gauge. It should be 12v. Also check for an open ground on that device."

"yes that is all that quit,i w

"yes that is all that quit,i will ck voltage on purple wire. does the gauge send signal to the horn drng the check? thank you for your reply"

"The alarm horn is driven by t

"The alarm horn is driven by the gauge or in my case, the tach.
Are you using the small 2" gauge with the vertical row of four lights, and a connector on the back that has two rows of four pins? Not the tach?

There is nothing on the engine that can generate the short burst to the horn at power up except the circuitry in the gauge or tach.

In fact, with a jumper wire, you can jump directly from 12v to the purple wire and cause the system check to run thru it's checks and bleep the horn. If that doesn't work, it has to be a bad ground, or a bad gauge or horn itself.

Do the lights cycle at power up or is it just the horn that doesn't work?"

"I have put power to the purpl

"I have put power to the purple wire and got nothing, then I grounded the black wire and still nothing. so I guess my 2'' gauge is bad?"

"Looks like it.
Have you got

"Looks like it.
Have you got one to swap in?
It just so happens that I have one spare.
That is why I was interested in this post.
One other thing you can try...if you power up the line that drives the horn I don't know the color code on that wire..only two wires I think....that will eliminate a bad horn. But you have no lights on the gauge either, right? It must be the gauge.

I have a spare (new, not installed) if you want it for 30.00."

"Thinking more clearly this AM

"Thinking more clearly this AM. According to my book, there are two wires to the horn, one purple (+12v) and one tan/purple (control signal).
If you ground the tan/purple, the horn will sound.
That tan/purple line gets grounded internally in the gauge when the circuitry in the gauge detects an issue that would trigger an alarm."

"I have re-read, and I do not

"I have re-read, and I do not see the answer to my question...

"Do the lights cycle at power up or is it just the horn that doesn't work?"

If it is just the horn, test it as above described."

the lights do not cycle. and t

the lights do not cycle. and the horn is also the horn for boat. the horn does work.
so the lghts and horn both do nothing at power up. . I am thinking bad gauge.
Thank You for your help

"no I do not have one to swap,

"no I do not have one to swap, I guess I will try west marine. I will ground the tan purple just to see what happens"

"If you are driving the boat&#

"If you are driving the boat's warning horn with this gauge....I am not sure about that one. I don't think that gauge is designed to handle the higher current that the boat horn would draw, vs. the low current OMC horn.
I would think it would burn up the circuitry in the gauge. Now, if it drives a relay which then drives the horn...that would be safer, but obviously more complicated."

"you are right now that I have

"you are right now that I have thought about it the boat had a high pitch beep instead of the horn blowing, where would the beeper be located?
the boat is still set up as it was from dealer, nothing on boat has been altered since new."

"Some are in the control box,

"Some are in the control box, some are wired near the gauge. It is a small device, mostly round, with squared off mounting bosses. My horn is under my helm near the tach.
Why don't you let me send my gauge to you to swap it in? If you are satisfied, send payment.
I am in FL, so it could be there quick."

I quoted you 30 bucks plus shiipping. If you want it let me know your address in a private e-mail, and I will ship it today via USPS.

You aren't gonna find it cheaper."

"He replaced the gauge, and sy

"He replaced the gauge, and system is working now. This was a drawn out process to fix, but it details out some key points for testing and fixing one part of the warning system, other that just swapping in a part to try.
I hope someone else can use this to their advantage."
