97 Evinrude Short Shaft Lower Unit Bearing

OK! I've got a lower unit

OK! I've got a lower unit that the housing is in great shape but the bearing sleave to the back of the unit is rusted not so bad that a fine sanding with a wire well can't fix. As long as I've got a smooth surface it sould be good right? Know guages or scrapes indentions of any kind? Aslong as I stay oiled up? Really need best result.Suggestions Would be Greatly Thankful!!!

"15HP It's off a sailboat. The project started out as a conversion, from a long shaft to short shaft. But the housing to the newer motor is in worse shape than the one I found at a repair shop. The one I found is a little older as for the year but usable and clean other than where the lower shaft and bearings had already been tak'in out. Thanks for answering so quickly. Morris"

"And yes it is an inst. bearing race. I just get alittle ahead of myself some times. I'm not a full fledge motor machanic but I do my best to stay as knowing as I can. Back Yard machanic I may be but I do the work ,and its done right when I get Done! Wish I could say that about all the rest."

Need to know if the waterpump re-surfacing method is advisible to us and dependable as for durability. Any garantee's of method being preformed on personal units. Would be helpful. And much needed."

The on line 93 and up Maintanc

The on line 93 and up Maintance on water pump housing tells you a precedure for repair using JB welled. Meaning building the inner impeller walls of the water pump. And I was tring to reassure myself of this method before spending any time or money on the precedure.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard of the process before. The info. I'm refering to is/or was the apoxy resin componed from JB welled. That the online Johnson Evinrude Maintaning 93/up had said about repairs procedure on impeller housing. And again thanks for the revision or putting me in check. Sometimes you have to hear it from another person.
