Not easy to start and revs reluctantly. Smokes too much for my liking and cuts out when gear engaged. Fuel delivery problem maybe ? HELP !

Hopefully the oil mixing unit has been discarded !-------Carburetor slow speed mixture screws adjusted per manual ?----Compression test done ?

I'm in the process of disconnecting the oil mixing unit but must admit I' m new to outboard maintenance and any advice will be welcome. As to the slow speed settings the unit will not run at all until the screws are backed off to nearly 4 turns! Compression test is okay.
