"I have a 96 150HP Oceanrunner, This is an OIS Looper 60, I tested Stator using a Static test with Ohms Meter to the brown wires and received no output, also done a cranking test on those wires using a volts meter and no output, pulled flywheel and Stator has this Thick Clear Material that has leaked down around crank shaft below stator.. Question; Is Stator Bad? and what cause Stator to melt down like that?"

"Most likely engine overheat or shortening. Replace the stator. Might even be a stator overheat caused by a shortening in the charge system. Ign coils are different from charge system coils, but being on the same anchor heat may spread."

"Unfortunately that 35 ampere stator runs excessively hot, and in time melts down as you have experienced. And yes, someday it will happen again."

"Joe or Morten,
Is there anything besides replacing the Stator that I need to replace or check? and also would this Stator going out make a popping or crackling noise in engine or exhaust when powering down from high RPMs? I remember also prior to this I was replacing a guage in instrument panel and hot wire came loose and grounged on guage set and blew the 30amp fuse by battery, do you think this would have dammaged something in ignition?"

"There might be some basic to look after.
Use original spark plugs (Champion) and keep all electric connectors and ground's clean.
Don't use Your engine to charge up a close to empty battery. It is better to have 2 smaller size batteries that one big. Install a volt meter that will give You an idea of the status of the electric system and charging.
Battery charging is separated from ignition, but overheating one part might damage the other.
But whatever precautions You take, nothing lasts for ever when it comes to boats and equipment."
