96 Evinrude Can Alternator be installed

"I have a 1996 electric start

"I have a 1996 electric start 25 hp evinrude outboard, E25TELEDA. It is an awesome motor but does not have an alternator on it, so when you start the motor, and use the battery much it goes dead since it does not have an alternator to recharge the battery. Hence if you let the battery get to far down and dont realize it, your dead in the water, literally. Is there a way or can an alternater be installed on this model motor so it will continue to recharge the battery when it is running? Help is appreciated."

"your eng,does not need an alt to run,...it has its own system...it just needs batt to start...yes u can add a chg system....u may already have it since u have elect start...look on your eng,for a small round thing,w/yellow wires....if there ..u r equipped to chg,...and syst should be cked..also,it is not a lg mp system...u may need a seperate batt for your accessories."

Unless I am just WAY OFF BASE, this has got to be his battery charging system.
And if so, and it is not charging....repair time."

"The little round thing JWB refers to is the rectifier assembly.
It has 4 wires coming from it, and I am gonna guess the colors here...two yellows, one black, and one red.
If I am right, the red one goes straight to the battery side of the starter solenoid.
Remember I am guessing here.
There are posts on here regarding testing the rectifier with an ohmmeter.
I hope this is correct....."
