I picked up this 25hp early last year. I'm having a hell of a time with this engine. The previous owner said a shop told him that it needed a new powerpack. I ordered the PP part #113-2285 under the impression that it was the right part. Popped it in. Engine ran but started missing at mid throttle. Traced it to the flimsy coil wire plugs from the PP not seating properly and losing connection at certain RPM vibrations. I thought I was a genius and my problems were over. Oh no...
Engine occasionally decided it didn't want to start, but seemed somewhat ok. I let it sit through the winter and started servicing it for the spring. Started right up on the second or third pull and ran for 30 secs. Died and wouldn't start again. Weak spark or no spark on both cylinders. I went through the CDI troubleshooting and found that the charge coil was reading close to 900 ohms when it should be 450-600. Bought a new charge coil and popped it in. Engine still wouldn't start. Both ignition coils tested within spec. Tested Charge coil again and that one read around 850ohms. Thought I got a bad charge coil from the supplier and received a new one. Tested it before I installed and it read 470 ohms. Good, right? I installed it, pulled the rope, engine sputtered and then refused to fire. Tested coil again and it now reads close to 900 ohms.
At this point, can a bad powerpack blow a charge coil? Turns out the PROPER replacement powerpack is #113-4767. The only difference I can see being the temp sensor/rpm limiter wire. I went ahead and got the right powerpack, but I'm just confused as hell.
