"I have been experiencing prob

"I have been experiencing problems starting the engine, as well as it stalling while its running. The engine has been getting worse for about a year now.. In order to start the engine, I have to pump the throttle in neutral a lot before it will start.. Once it starts, it will stall as soon as the engine reaches lower rpm or it is engaged in gear. When it would idle, it would idle rough and stall after 5 feet in reverse or forward... Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Marina said last season i was probably experiencing problems due to using automobile gas.. So i've been putting in some water evap stuff i believe, but still experiencing problems?

Should I change the spark plugs? Fuel pump issue??"

"Jas sounds like fuel probs...

"Jas sounds like fuel probs...however check the compression and spark first if they are both ok you will have to remove the carbs and clean them out and it is good practise to fit kits while they are apart. Check your fuel supply...no water in the tank,no restriction in fuel lines and new filters"

"jamie, thanks for the help..

"jamie, thanks for the help.. I'll be getting home in a few days and will check the spark. I have not worked on boat outboards much, but am fairly mechanically inclined. Do i have to get a compression test kit to check the compression? Also, when you say "good practise to fit kits while they are apart", what type of kits are you referring to? Sorry if these are newb questions, I do appreciate your help.

My gas tank is also built in so it makes it hard to access. How do you usually tell if there is water in the fuel?

Thanks,
Jason"

Buy a compression tester from

Buy a compression tester from an auto parts store i am sure they are very cheap.

The motor is about 12 years old and gaskets deteriorate over time as do rubber etc so you will need carby kits to overhaul them.

Use the fuel primer and pump some fuel into a buck and have a look for water also take the fuel filter off and pour this into a bucket and look for water.
