my name is Anthony and im from Australia and i run a ski race boat here with a 96 225 vidicator on the back!
just woundering if anyone could tell me so standard specs on the engine like compression ratio and so on!
the last race i was at i blew the lower unit and over revved the engine to 9,000rpms so im currently rebuilding it and making sure i didnt damage anything im also looking at doing some work to the engine suck as the idle relief holes and maybe some exhaust port work if anyone could help me on some things that will gain me some horse power that would be great!
at the moment we are doing 83mph with 2 skiers with a stock 225 we wanna get over the 90mph mark for next season cheers!"

"I am sorry if I'm a bit direct, but if You do not know what and why You are doing it - don't!

Start by propping Your boat to where You have max power, not below - not above! Running above 6000 is suicide for the engine.

On my avatar pic there is a Boston Whaler 17 outrage with a 225 Venom -tuned and brake tested to 248HP, one of my old toys.

There is no problem bringing those engines up to around 250hp, but You need some port balancing to be done, rejetting etc. Another problem in the speeds You are talking about is the water inntakes, You have to modify to front pick-up (nose cone). (kits available several places).

I have in my time tuned up a lot of engines, even the V8 (3,6 and 4,0) Evinrudes and there is quite a lot to get here and there, but it takes time, patience and knowledge, nothing for this board."

i have some things that i am going to do to the engine such as the idle relief holes and also i am going to match port the intake and exhaust ports as they dont line up also im going to deck the heads for some more added compression!

as for the water pick up mods i have never heard about that mod as of yet but i havent had any problems with the water pick up as i run my engine pretty low off the transom as i run a air entrapment hull so there is no need to jack it right up so i run about 30 psi water pressure to keep the engine temp down!
also i was running a 14 1/4 29 srx prop and during a race im doing arround 6,000rpms to 6,500rpms!!!

also since i blew the lower unit i ordered a brand new lightning lower unit from the united states!"
