"I have a 96 150 carb'd Johnson that when you turn the key off it will try to die, but won't. Have to put in gear the turn key off and give it some gas. You can also pull the lanyard and it will try to die but won't. Any ideas?"
 
Hey I used to have a 96 johnso

Hey I used to have a 96 johnson 75hp that did that. And come to find out it was either the kill switch or the igniton was still getting power. the mechanic i used went ahead and rerun the power to the ignition and replaced the kill switch. After i sold it to him and just used my new boat.hope this may help.

"check the black wires with yellow tracers, coming off the power pack. it sounds like one side of the motor is shutting off and not the other"

"u need to pull the left plug-in conn on pack,..using ohmmeter,ck the blk/yell wire--must be open when on,and continuity when off...
i suspect u either have a bad key sw,or a bad grnd,to that switch."
