"While getting ready for the spring fishing season I noticed that when shifting either to forward or reverse it was stiff. I removed the shift cable and the cables seem to be good. I then checked the shift rod by turning the prop while attempting to shift, it was very hard. I'm going to replace the WP impeller soon and want to check this out while the foot is removed. Is it possible for the shift rod to freeze up? If so, what and where do I need to look?"

"i've seen them get a little difficult,..and,i have seen this caused by water in gearcase...ck to make sure you have no water in gearcase,drop lower unit and ck shifting w/it off outboard.Engine needs to be running,or someone needs to be turning propshaft for it to shift in gears easily."
