"Motor was running great! Moved to 2 or 3 spots anchored up for about an hour each time bottom fishing. When I tried to start it to go home, only a very slight clicking and also when I tried to use the power tilt. The battery is new and after the humiliation of being towed in from 5 miles out, I had the battery checked out. It was good with plenty of amps. I tried another battery from another boat same thing. Any Clues??"

"Sounds like a bad cable or a bad engine ground. If the batteries tested good, that eliminates them. If it just clicks when trimming, that eliminates the starter as the problem. It all leads back to the cables and connections."

"Well good News! TowBoatUS can stand down. I went back and measured the voltage at the engine with the key on and the voltage was fine. If I tried to start it, it just clicked. I took the power and ground connectors off everywhere and cleaned them(even the Perko battery switch) and still nothing. So I checked the cables in the wiring harness themselves. Of course, as Bill Engval would say, it was the last one I checked. The ground cable, about 8" from where it connected to the battery terminal, the insulation was cut on the bottom. I peeled it back only to find corroded and broken wires in the cable. I was able to cut the bad section off and solder a new connector on. I guess because of the degradated cable, the volts were fine but it just couldn't push the amps. Thanks so much for helping me create a third mind and to look around the tree to see the forest!!!

Hope I can help someone else out.

Scott"
