"I have a 1966? 9.5 Johnson that will only idle with cover off. Mech. says it has a leak and gasket is obsolete, says to drill holes in cover! Any suggestions?"

"Find where it's leaking,

"Find where it's leaking, buy a sheet of gasket material(auto parts store), then take the gasket and lay on top of where you want to make the gasket. Take a ballpeen hammer and lightly tap gasket material straight up and down on the EDGE of where you want the gasket formed. The edge of the housing and the ballpeen hammer cuts a perfect gasket. DONT hammer so hard that you deform the housing. The hammer and the housing should never touch one another. Works EVERY time. If you must, use two way tape to hold gasket material in place. Good luck!"

probaly that hose for the exhaust they failed all the time i hate those motors
