"I have recently purchased a 1979 12' fiberglass tri-hull that has a 9.5 hp johnson outboard on it. I am in need of some information. First, the model# MO-13M Serial# J2764075 is on a tag on the mounting bracket on the motor. Second, what year is the motor and what is the fuel and lube requirements? Any help would be greatly appreciated."

"Ray, believe your model number should be MQ-13M which would make it a 1967 model.

This should mix at 50:1 with regular unleaded and TCW-3 rated 2 stroke outboard oil.

For the lower unit, any gear lube rated for "Marine" use should work fine, except Type "C" which is for OMC electric shift (which yours is not)...."

Thank you so much for this information. I can't believe the engine is that old. It looks and runs great! My wife and I are going to take it out today. Thanks again for the help. It is greatly appreciated.

I have a Johnson MQ-13M 9.5hp

I have a Johnson MQ-13M 9.5hp outboard motor with stand and fuel tank. It was my Dad's which he bought new in the 1960's. It has been well cared for and I would like to know the value if anyone is familiar with this item.

"That's a 1967 model. It's probably not worth as much as you may think.

In good running condition, and decent cosmetic condition for the age, it would normally sell in the 200-500 dollar range. The high end would be for an exceptional motor, in the right "market", most sell for considerably less.

It is not quite old enough to be antique or collectable, yet too old to have a "modern" ignition system."
