I have a 70 hp force that the 2 bolts that hold the prop shaft and all the gears in came out and prop shaft, bearings, gears, etc. went to bottom of the lake. my question is are there any other lower units that have all the same parts maybe? if so can I remove prop shaft and gears as a unit and install in mine? thanks.

Trying to use a different gearset?? You will need to shim the unit. Not many places have the tools. Try finding a lower unit. Look on the net for marine salvage yards. J

thanks. that's what I was wanting to know. I found a lower unit that I purchased but the bottom of the skeg is broke. my skeg is in great shape. do I need to take my unit and the one I bought to a repair shop and have them shim the unit correctly or is this something I can do. im a Caterpiller heavy equipment technician and was wondering if I could do myself?? thanks for your reply!

Not without the necessary shimming tools.Try the local Mercury Dealer. They might have the tools. How much of the skeg is left on the lower unit? It's possible to weld the new skeg on it or even a skeg replacement piece. It bolts right on to the bottom. They sell a plastic one that gets glued over the original?? Post a pic? Lot's of prop repair places will weld a skeg replacement, again ask the dealer if it's possible, they should be able to help. ( outboard motor skeg replacement) put that into Bing or Google and a LOT of stuff pops up. J

If you are a heavy equipment technician I am sure you know how to fit gears and do the shimming.------------------If you understand these concepts it may take more time without the factory / shop time saving tools, but it can be done at home.----This is not " rocket science " by any means.

hi you wouldnt have a dog cluch for sale by any chance.that you want to sell.i have a chrysler motor 65 hp would you have one to fit please cheers ash

Exactly ,if you understand the concept of " mounting distance " when setting up gears.------Backlash measurement------Shims and the use of " mechanics blue " then it is easy to do this yourself.
