The mounting stud on the starter bracket facing the engine front snapped off and subsequently, I discovered the lowest of the 3 fasteners on the port side had vibrated out and the upper port side fastener was loose. I was able to extract the original stud and replace it and re-assembled and tightened things. All working - but - it seems to me that the starter is grinding excessively like the alignment of things may be off. You can see the bendix moving up and down a bit to imperfections in the flywheel ring gear - like thinks are way to tight. I can find no detail on this port bracket. I wonder - am I missing a step? Perhaps sometimes a shim is needed somewhere?
