I'm at my wits end with this motor. I've been struggling with an intermittent ignition problem for over a year that I can't solve. I take the boat to the local lake and she runs fine. I haul it off to a trip to the coast and it gives me problems. Ruined two separate trips. The trouble starts when I'm crusing along and out of the blue I feel a bump in the motor then I lose about 25% power can't get above 3500 RPMs sometimes it will bump again and self correct and sometimes it won't. So a year ago I start researching and replacing parts. Every time I replace something it seems to run great and I think the problem is solved the bump is back. Previously I checked the wiring connections and replaced a bad rectifier/ regulater thought that solved the issue but no. Then I replaced all four coils and the power pack. Ran fine for a while then bump same problem. So I let it set for a year and the other day I decide what the hey, I'll go ahead and replace the stator and timmer base and another power pack just for ha ha s because it did look a little swollen on top. I thought this would take care of my problems once and for all ! Everything seemed fine in the driveway, fire on all four. Took it to boat ramp to set the timming and when I put the light on the plug wire, no fire on #1 cylinder. Took it home put the old power pack back on and fire returns while cranking over in the driveway. Next day go back to the ramp to again set the timming and lose fire on the same cylinder with the old pack still on. Looks like I'm in worst shape now then befour I spent $400 + on new parts. I did switch plug wire and coil with no change. Maybe I just fried two power packs IDK but I'm at my wits end and sick to my stomach. Any ideas would be great.
