94 OMC 90 turbojet starting issues

I am currently having a problem starting my engine. I have replaced the battery and the starter. I still have the same symptoms. Try to crank it and it barely turns over (almost like battery is dead). I removed all the plugs and it turns over a little better but still not very strongly. When I attempt to crank, the starter, and the positive and negative wires get really hot. Does this indicate a possible issue with the ground wire? I have attempted to bypass the stator as well and get the same results. Any next steps or pointers would be appreciated.

Have you checked oil in the gearbox for the jet pump ??--------------------------Any chance water has gotton into the engine ?
 
Thanks for the quick responses. The boat is still in the water so have not checked the jet pump (boat is new to me and will have to research some of this). I have removed all the plugs and can turn the crank by hand. It is not super easy, but I can do it.

If it is not extremely hard to turn, you probably have bad connections on the starter, the solenoid, the engine ground or the battery cables. Hence the heat.
 
Ok thanks again for the help. I will just run a new + and - cable to the engine as I do not see any obovious issues with the cables. Two more questions for anyone that might know.... Can a faulty silenoid cause issues like this? and Where are a few good points to re attach the ground cable. I dug a little deeper and it appears that this might not be the first time this boat has had an issue like this as the previous owner appears to have run a second ground cable directly from the battery to the engine.
 
You can bypass the solenoid with booster cables --------Make sure there is no fuel leakge !!!----------Did you install a " new starter " or just an other one??
 
It was a new starter. I will be able to work on it again in a few days and will post findings results. I will test voltage at starter post while attempting to start. My assumption is that if it is less than 10v then prob a soleniod/wiring/corrosion issue. If voltage is good then maybe a bad starter. There is light rust on the exterior of the solenoid and one of the small post has some corrosion on it but the larger posts look good. Is it possible to have corrosion within the solenoid that would cause fewer volts to be delivered to the starter?

Problem Solved - In the end it ended up being electricial connections. I disconnected the positive and negative power lines at the battery end and the engine end and it starts right up. There was no indication of corrosion but the copper had a tint to it. Once I sanded it to a nice and shiny copper finish, I re-attached and have not had any problems since. Now that it runs, it is overheating......but that is another post :)
