I was running my boat wide open and the motor just shut off. Didn't sputter or anything. Thought I would let it cool down and try to start it again but with no luck. Any ideas what went wrong?

Maybe your friend should fix his motor. Because the difference between hot compression and cold compression is not as great as you think it is.a buddy of mines has the same motor & very difficult to fire on a cold start. The trick is while cranking it spray some fogging oil into the carbs, this helps with sealing the rings temporary until piston heats up & expands.
Racer one is right, start with the easy stuff like compression test and spark test. It could be your power pack decided to die at that moment, however, an engine that 'just dies running WOT' could mean big problems. If it's not an electrical issue, the culprit is usually a lean seizure or the engine has over heated when the engine suddenly quits like this.I was running my boat wide open and the motor just shut off.
