Hi guys-I'm hoping you can help me out with this issue-
End of last summer I had the boat out for a river cruise and I got the overheat warning buzzer. I got towed back to the ramp, brought the boat home and proceeded to troubleshoot.....I checked the water pump- looked fine- and replaced both t'stats....Ran with the muffs, and spiked right up to overheat...

I got rather disgusted and put it away for the season.

Fast forward to this spring:
I replaced the water pump assembly and fired it up. It ran like a champ, water pissing out the indicator, temp running up to about 160 the settling down to around 140.

Yesterday, I get it running again, and straight to overheat.... no water pissing out, no water up to the heads( I pulled the stats out to check).

Anyone able to point me in the right direction? I'm at wits end- I really don't want to bring it to a mechanic, But I certainly will if I have to..

Thanks

There is a rubber grommet under the power head that hold the water pick up tub. That some times can swell up restricting the flow of water to the power head. best be is to remove the lower unit and run the motor on a garden hose and see if the motor over heats. If it over heats try blowing some compressed air in the pick up tube and go from there.

Okay.... So I fixed the overheating issue.... finally got around to testing in the lake, and she ran pretty well. I was noticing that the temps were all over the place-WOT the temps climbed to about 175 and stayed pretty steady.... as I'd back it down, the temps would come down also. Now, I can't remember if it used to do this before or not, so if this is normal, could someone let me know???

Thanks
