"My 93 40 hp starts fine except when it blows the 20 amp fuse. The whole electrical system goes dead. Moving and shaking the engine harness will sometimes fix the short and moter will start aftter replacing the fuse several times and shaking the harness. I've checked all the wiring and can find no visable shorts.
It's ok with the key in RUN, but when you turn it to START, the fuse blows. It will rope start with a blown fuse, but nothing else works including tilt.
I've replaced the solenoid, no change. It's an intermitent problem. I can go days with out a problem. Possible bad starter, switch box, regulator? The service manual I have shows a schematic for a 93 and a wiring diagram for a late 93/94. I have an early serial number.
