first of all im new to the for

first of all im new to the forum and like the sight ive been reading alot of the post and there are some people who love boating as well as i do..ok..i recently purchased a 1992 ski brendella with a 351 wisner i do believe. the transmission is a pcm 40 with a 1 to 1 ratio.when i bought the boat they told me they thought the clutch plate was bad i took it on the river to see what it would do. it went into forward for a short while and then nothing just rpms. it has transmision fluid in it and the tag says to put 20w motor oil in it ..can that have any thing to do with it slipping. it would go into reverse just fine..i fooled with it awhile and it actually went back in forward for just a short minute.i pulle the dip stick today and the oil level seems fine.how hard is to change the clutch plates how many are there and does anyone think thats what the case definitly is..any input would be greatly appreciated and tx for taking the time to read this long post..ty

"the clutch plates are probabl

"the clutch plates are probably burnt and in need of replacing...very common when maintenance is neglected.

It isn't hard if you have done a hydraulic transmission before...if you haven't, take it to some that has. Normally, you change the frictions and the steels as a set.

You can buy a new gear for under $1500. If you need parts, skidim_dot_com is an established supplier of these parts."
