I recently bought a 92 sunbird. The guy I bought it off said the trim work fine but one day just stopped. Further looking at it I see he has disconnected the oil lines. I have re attached them but am not sure were to add the oil to continue investigating the problem. I can here the electric motor engage but it obviously has no pressure.any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dustin

See item #1 and the oil reservior at the bottom. Just to the left of the screw on oil fill cap are two bolt heads or plugs. They attach there. If the fluid in the reservior is red then it has been using ATF for oil. If it is brown then it has been using hydraulic/power steering oil. Since the hoses were disconnected by the previous owner I would suspect he was dishonest to you about it working. If it will run at all then run it up/down several times to bleed the air out the system. Let us know what happens.

I had a similar problem.
Found the oil was dirty and low.
I took the pump apart, cleaned both sides and replacing the oil with the Merc stuff.
It remained sluggish.
When I drained the pistons to make sure the "good" oil was in the pistons too found "gunk" in the oil in the pistons.
You know "gunk" that snotty brown gelatinous stuff that that defies any other description.
Got worried and took the pistons apart. Lots of corrosion.
Rebuilt the pistons.
Had to hone the cylinders a bit and polished the push-rod.
I strongly suggest draining the oil from the whole hydraulic system, all the hoses, pistons, everything. Flush the system and replace the oil. And flush means waste quart of the expensive Merc oil.

Greatly appreciated. I also see the other line has a leaky compression fitting. That brown gunky oil is all in the stern of the boat but the oil that was coming out of the leak and disconnected line seemed pretty clean. The seller probably topped it up with new stuff. I have a guy up north who has smoked his motor and is parting out his boat. Maybe I'll go that route to get the whole package rather then trying to rebuild. We'll see when I start taking it apart. I can't stand it when things don't work.

"Using the cheapest ATF will work perfectly." (per Bondo) ATF contains additives that will help clean the entire system while the viscosity properties of ATF allow easier fluid flow in cool weather.
