92 johnson 200 J200STLENS cuttting out

Runs great at idle and lower speeds.
When I get to 3500-4000 Rpms it starts cutting out sometimes at little higher rpm depending on water conditions.
Removed the VRO pump and replaced fuel pump that did not help.

So I should probably do a Compression check to Rule out head or gasket issues?
Water pump ant thermostats are 3 years old but there is good water pressure when it's running.
Temp sensor is disconnected and grounded out due to unavailability not sure if that would have any like issues?
