92 DT85 Overheat Warning at Trolling Speed

My DT85 runs excellent at high

My DT85 runs excellent at high speed with no overheat. Aftr trolling for about 5-10 minutes overheat signal beeps and light comes on. There is still water coming out of telltale hole. If I speed up it misses until light turns off and then runs fine. Am I right in assuming water pump is not up to snuff at low rpm?

That variation is most likely the thermostat opening and closing.

"Normal operation but it can only open and shut, if insufficient water is circulating it will get too hot and if the stat is open it has no other way of cooling the motor.

Might be worth testing in any case as it may be bent or corroded and not opening far enough..."
