"bought this fall,it's a 2

"bought this fall,it's a 22' deck boat,appears to be a ford,only used it 3 times so far. it only ran 3500rpm ,takeoff was good. top speed was a dissapointing 42.5,so Iwas going to go to an aluminum intake and 4bbl carb. is this a good idea or not? also what is the hp rating for this? any information is appriciated.thanks,Craig"

Check compression first before you do anything else and post back the numbers.

Oh where on top is the dist. front or back?

"it's on the front its not gm i know it's not one, any clue on addvertised HP? what about the other ?s compression is good,very smooth idle. how fast can I make it go with out major mods? thanks, Craig"

start with compression check as chief says, and verify the tach's accuracy with a shop tach"

"Deep pockets craig don't want to find the problem BEFORE you start throwing big big bucks into the motor?

10 minutes do the compression test. Write down every number and cylinder. Then post the numbers.

Oh a vacuum test wont hurt ether, it's free and all you need is the gauges.
