92 200HP Johnson poor prformance

"Just had a new ignition switc

"Just had a new ignition switch installed incorrectly, I chased wires and found that the primer was hot at all times. Fixed it and now engine fires right up and will idle fine @ 600 rpms. Throttling up the performance is sluggish and will only reach about 4800 rpms.
After running for awhile the idle goes to heck and it is hard to keep running on the low end. I just noticed going into reverse is also very difficult.
This machine ran great until the switch removement and replacement. Please help....."

I just got back from the coast last wk end,my personal boat,is a 97 200 johnson.had low rpm's,and a cpl of bog downs,but ran fair....went thru all the tests,all showed good,..and i do mean all the ck;s.....everything was good,UNTILL,i put it on the dyno,and found HS ign timing was way off on the low side,at WOT..
I could not adj to obtain specified HS timing..Pulled flywheel to ck ,found TIMER ring,which is GLUED on,spining like a top...altho,my timing tests,never showed a variable timing.
Re-glued timer ring,back to dyno,..bingo---was able to obtain correct spec.This is just ONE reason,timing should be checked on these outboards,..and the bigger the eng,the more imp it is...in my opinion."
