"Ok I finally replaced the old

"Ok I finally replaced the old melting stator with a new cdi brand. new plugs(ngk bzhs-10:stk. #3579) put all orifices # 31 in idle positons on strbd side, # 33 in idle positions on port side, have # 50's in intermed. (has been running for a few years ok at take off & mid range) had machinist drill out the one with # 10 or 15 size hole to # 50 size, pulled bottom drain plug & high speed jet:all is spotlessly clean! I need to ck my timing now. what is the man. spark adjustment for on the strbd. side of my motor & how do I ck to make sure it is functioning properly before I ck my timing? I think my timing is supposed to be 28 btc,at wot in the water under a load, is this correct? no,my manual hasn't arrived yet.I guess I'm in a bigger hurry than the us postal service. thanks, jeff"

"Nope...not correct.

"Nope...not correct.

You are gonna get flak for not using Champion plugs....

I am confused about your jetting process...but I am more concerned about the following:

The manual has a detailed link and sync procedure that you MUST follow to the letter.
The carb butterflies are first checked/adjusted to operate in exact unison across ALL 6 carbs.
When you manually move the throttle link at the top of the carbs, all butterflies must do the exact same thing at the same time, and must close completely at idle stop.

Then the roller at the top of the throttle linkage must be adjusted to line up with the pointer on the throttle cam (plastic cam that actuates the carb throttle linkage.)

Then, the timing linkages must be adjusted at idle speed, in the water, for (AND YOU MUST LOOK THIS UP FOR YOUR 91 ENGINE) about 4* ATDC at idle, and about 18* BTDC for WOT speed of 5000 rpm. YOU MUST LOOK UP THE EXACT SPEC.

It is an intricate adjustment process that must be right, and if it is not right, you may just melt the top of a piston."

"thanks doug. if you can ck my

"thanks doug. if you can ck my sept. 26 post, it will expl. my jets. went back to fac specs. exc. mids r still # 50. r the ngk's not right? I tried champion a while back & the motor seems to run better with ngk. Maybe the shop that did the carb.repairs & tune-up didn't do it right? i'll change if need be. i cked the comp. 5 were at 75 psi, 1 was at 74 psi. I know thats low but am hoping to get by for a little while. didn't ck with oil or anything in cyl. just turned over & got reading.I will ck my carb link& sync like you posted while waiting for us postal serv. to del. my new fac.man.thanks again, jeff"
