"Hey guys, I checked under my flywheel and found some brown & black substance running from my stator. I assume my stator has gotten hot & needs replacing. I got the nut off ok, then put some wd-40 around where the shaft and flywheel meet. About 4 hrs later i put a harmonic balancer puller on it & nothing happened. Some one said to put vinegar on it. I let it soak for about 2 hrs. & still nothing. Whats next? Any ideas?"

"Prefered method is to put the retainer nut back on a few threads, and then use the factory flywheel puller. Tighten the living %^^&* out of it. Then call it a day. Should be off the next morning when you check on it. (The nut keeps the flywheel from colliding with low flying aircraft when it finally comes loose.)"

"Thanks for the input. I assume you mean to hit the top of the puller not the flywheel? I did that several times (puller not flywheel) & nothing happened. I haven't checked it this morning yet. I don't have a garage or anywhere out of the weather so I put my new motor cover over it to keep the rain out, hope I don't have a new hole in my cover!"

"Jamie, I did what you said about hitting the top of the puller after I had it tight. And yes I cleaned the three holes out good and bottomed them out before tightening the puller. One of the three bolts that screw into the flywheel popped out, stripping the threads in the flywheel!!!Now what? Can I drill & tap the threads out larger with finer threads or is there enough meat around those holes ?"

"I have had to retap the pulle

"I have had to retap the puller holes before, use a bottoming tap to get threads all the way to the bottom of the hole."
