"Gday, from long time reader 1

"Gday, from long time reader 1st time posting. been doing some maintenance on my 40 hp mariner 2 stroke 2 cyl 2 carbs, (the yammy dealer doesnt like to to sell me parts but they have the parts that fit) I have rebuilt carbs, fuel pump, new spark plugs, gear box oil, pumps plenty of water, it now gets back to a top speed of 60 klm,s hr on gps with bimini down, runs strong the whole way through revs, (no rpm gauge)14 p prop, and idles good for a twin, my concern is since i painted the prop and put new plugs (ngk b8hs) used to be (ngk b8hs 10) but after running about 40 litres 50 - 1 fuel i find there is no exhaust soot in prop and the plug electrodes are both same white, not light tan with the ngk b8hs 10, is there much diff with these plugs? or is this normal just to clean for 2 stroke, the low speed idle jets are backed out over 2 turns, could it be lean? the only other thing i did was let a little more air into the front of the cowling, any ideas will be appreciated, Johnny"

Light tan is the correct color

Light tan is the correct color. Be careful here. Don't fool with the air intake to much. That is calibrated. It will run lean if that is opened up.

"Thanks, so the b8hs without the "10" is ok ? I thought it was running lean and this is why i did all the other stuff thinking maybee the fuel was restricted, i did find a bit of dirt in the fuel tank, is it ok to still run it or would you sugest one size bigger main jet or ?
I do use it to go through the local coastal bar that can get tricky to get out when theres swell, and a little more power helps there, or at least to get the plugs tan again, thanks."
