"hey guys, the story continues

"hey guys, the story continues! yester day I decided to find out why exhaust leaks around my lower unit. so I pulled it and found the exhaust gasket was twisted from an earlier pump install. Must remember to put a little lube on it this time. No parts available till mon. so I checked my carbs and found some weird stuff. I pulled the brass drain plus and high speed orifices, all was well there, clean as a whistle! but someone has installed the others in a weird way. All the top jets were # 50 except for the port bottom and it had no number and had a very tiny pinhole thru it.Looking on-line at evinrude site they are supposed to be # 55.they had #'s 31 & 33 scattered on both port and strbd sides in the idle air bleed ports. Supposed to be 33 port & 31 strbd. Does any one know should I replace the # 50 with the # 55's, like the site says or leave them alone? and what is up with the one without a number and small pinhole? I think it should be a # 50 like the others or # 55. thanks for your input!"

"Yep definitely the story cont

"Yep definitely the story continues, these motor are a mess I wish there was some body that would specialize on that particular model, I been dealing with mine for almost a year as I don’t know my powerhead’s year model, but have it narrowed to a 89-92 (200 HP), there are so many configurations for the idle orifices and the intermediate orifices that make it almost impossible to figure out which one really goes in there, on mine currently has #47 intermediates and #34 idle orifices, but it smokes like crazy at idle, so I going up to #39 and bought #42 just in case, I tried #47 for idle and took care of some the smoke issue but started sneezing so I figure I'll play with orifices in the mid area between the #34 and the 47 that I tried, just remember orifices compensate for change in elevations, or the way in which the motor is running (lean conditions and rich conditions) with that said remember orifices affect the motor o the ranges set to, for example idle orifices affect idle, intermediates affect mid running/acceleration and high speeds jets affect high speed running I been dwelling on something that DOUGH said just buy newer carbs with idle adjustment screws…. But I’m just not ready to give up yet.."

"thanks for the input. where a

"thanks for the input. where are you located? I'm in tex. about 700? ft elev. I've had mine about 10 yrs. and it has ALWAYS smoked alot at idle but clears up when I accel. then smokes when I return to idle. I thought maybe I was mixing my oil a tad to much & never really worried about it, because it clears up at plane. It is a little embaressing at the ramp when everyone is watching me fog for mosquitoes tho.I'm just now started learning about the orifices since I've been reading these posts. hopefully I can figure it out with all ya'lls help.do you know why the butterflys are sticking on my port side & how to adjust them? the strbdside starts to open maybe 1/8" before the port side starts to move, also."

"I reread your post & noti

"I reread your post & noticed you have some really big orifices on your carbs. Wouldn't that allow more fuel in (with more oil) causing it to burn more oil? smoke more? I'm new,so excuse my ignorance>"
