90hp VRO Question

Good Morning Everyone,
This is my maiden post and must say after reading many past threads, I'm very happy to be a member of this forum.

I have a 90hp Johnson Model #90ELECM. The motor is in excellent shape/low hours. Deciding thru the Pros and Cons of replacing the VRO I went ahead and replaced the original VRO. (I'm new to boating/motors and just thought it prudent since the unit was over 12 years old.)

Prior to taking it to the Johnson Mechanic I made sure the gas tank was clean, and filled with Shell High Octane + Seafoam.

He installed the VRO2 and pre-mixed the oil into the fuel I provided. He felt that 5 gallons was enough of a break-in period and advised me to monitor the oil tank which was filled to the brim.

I have launched twice this year (approx 4 hrs run time total), no speed above 25mph - problem free.

Yesterday, upon inspection I noticed a mid-brown colour oil running down from the rear of the prop onto the skeg.

Here is my question (with a sub question). Is this due to the fact that the pre-mix with the VRO is adding additional oil and its not burning off completely?
Should I just start using straight High Octane fuel and leave the oiling to the VRO?

Your responses would be most appreciated. Thank You,

bobby

u dont need to run anything but 87......
and ur dbl oil situation ,is prob what u r seeing...decarb it,chg plugs, when u get on straight gas.

Most likely unburned fuel/oil mix...more importantly, has the oil level gone down in the VRO oil tank? If so, and you've had no alarms sound while running, you're good to go with the straight fuel (I don't believe you need High Octane...87 octane should be fine).
