"2000 Yamaha 90hp temp alarm goes off right after running at 4000 rpm. I shut motor off, restart, and temp alarm still on. I can put my hand on motor over thermostat and it does not feel hot. Mechanic used infared thermometer and it was not overhot. After about 20 minutes I can restart without alarm idle back to dock. New impeller, removed water jacket cleaned inspected for clogs. Should I look at computer, temp sensor, oil pump, thermostat, I am stumped."

Could just be a faulty temp se

Could just be a faulty temp sensor. Any unusal amount of steam coming from engine after the alarm goes off? They will steam if they get hot enough to set off a properly working sensor or if in fact the engine is hot.

"mechanic switched out temp se

"mechanic switched out temp sensor while on the water after the buzzer went off... and did not solve problem... where do i look next,"

If you haven't looked at t

If you haven't looked at the t-stats...do so. They should open right up if you soak them in really hot water.

"Replaced t-stat and pop valve

"Replaced t-stat and pop valve, grommet and spring. Problem seems to be solved...ran it up to 5000 rpm with no overheating alarm going off. Wonder why mechanic did not do that first time I brought it back to shop?..."
