90 merc 3rd party trim mtr

1990 90hp mercury 3rd party trim motor with relays instead of solenoids. when I trim button up or down the starter kicks in. Even when I hook the main red wire from relays to battery it still kicks in. the control is new also.

Post a pic,I think your relays are either gone bad and making a connection through to your starter solenoid or are wired wrong.Wiring is what I would check first.

Did you possibly, accidentally for a short time, hook the battery cables up backwards?
