90 Johnson forward not working.

I am trying to help out a friend, This motor is on a pontoon. The boat ran out of fuel and we were towed back with the motor out of the water, When we got back to camp we put fuel back in it and cranked it up, When he pulled away from the bank the forward gear would not engage. So the boat will crank up in Neutral and go in reverse, when you put it in forward it still goes in reverse, you can bump into neutral and it will stop,, I am going back up to the lake this weekend to try and help him figure it out. Any input would be appreciated!!

See if shift cable is still attached.----See if shift rod moves up for selecting forward gear.----Perhaps check gear oil.

Hey Chris, welcome. What model are we working on? I have seen these long pontoon shift cables fail before.....often from rust.

Make sure shift cable is working properly

It is a 2000 Lowe 22ft with a 2000 90 Johnson.
